Discover Crossbones Graveyard - past, present and future
Join a free walk at 2pm on 27th July, exploring the story of Crossbones Graveyard

Sunday 27 July, 2pm

Cross Bones – past, present, future with John Constable, author of The Southwark Mysteries and Secret Bankside. This free walk reveals the extraordinary story of Cross Bones, the ‘outcasts graveyard’. We explore the medieval Liberty of the Clink, visiting Winchester Palace and the sites of Bankside prisons, bear-pits, playhouses and ‘stews’, then head south via Cross Bones gates to Red Cross Garden and Mint Street Park. We learn about the shrine and the vigils held at the gates, and look at plans for a meanwhile garden and for a longer-term garden of remembrance on the old burial ground. The walk lasts 90 minutes and is supported by C.G. Hacking and Sons. Age: over 16. Free.

Meet: Tabard Street Piazza (pedestrian zone between St George the Martyr church and the gardens), Borough High St / Tabard St junction, SE1 1JA. Borough tube. Please gather at 1.45 for sign in and safety announcements. Walk departs 2pm prompt.
